hunting for home 2

Thursday, March 15th, 2007

Some of you have been asking about our recent search for a place to live for next year.  We found a place!  And it is bigger and cheaper than what we are in now.  Just what we were hoping for!  We feel very grateful to have found this rare place in the 3rd district.  If you see my previous post on “hunting for home” you’ll see what the boys were hoping for.  Well, it is yellow, has stairs, and has a couple trees!  We will move in on May 1st.  I’ll write more later…with a picture!  :)

hello world

Wednesday, March 14th, 2007

Well, if you haven’t guessed it, I am taking a break from blogging these days.  There has been a lot happening in the last few weeks and months, and we’re pretty excited about life in general.  However, my computer died a couple weeks ago.  So I must learn how to make fire without matches so to speak.  I’m hoping to make a genuine re-entry into the blogosphere in the near future.  So keep an eye out!

hunting for home

Friday, February 9th, 2007

We’ve been searching for a house or an apartment to rent for next year.  What a difficult process.  I recently heard that more than 95% of Hungarians own their home, which leaves very very few rentals.

The boys have told us exactly what they are looking for in our next home.  Seth wants stairs and a tree.  Jacob wants a dog.  And Nathan wants something yellow.  I figure this narrows down our choices pretty well.

movies

Someone asked me what my top ten favorite movies are.  Well, here’s my initial response…in no particular order:

-Neverland (Én Pán Péter)

-The Glen Miller Story

-The Sting

-The Truman Show

-It’s a Wonderful Life

-When Harry Met Sally

-Good Will Hunting

-City Slickers

-Casa Blanca

rolled R’s

Friday, January 26th, 2007

Wow.  This week Seth (our 5 year old) learned how to “roll his r’s.”  He is sooooo excited.  I told him, “Seth!  You know how to speak Hungarian!!”  He said, “yeah!”  So now, every word that has an “r” in it gets a good roll.  Kukorrrrrrica.  Órrrrrrriás.  Hárrrrrrfa.  Barrrrát.  Babszárrrrr.

Update

Friday, January 26th, 2007

Hi folks!  We had a special time in America during December with friends and family.  We only regret how short the time was and our inability to see everyone we wanted to.

We returned to Budapest on the 10th of January and hit the ground running.  Strangely, Budapest felt like home to us, and the boys have been making lots of new observations.  We can’t help comparing this RE-entry to Hungary with our entry to Hungary 1.5 years ago.  What a difference.

We’re mostly excited to see our friends here and continue “traveling” together.  Kristof and I had had a great time searching for a teaching job for our dear friend Joanna who will come to Budapest this July.  We can’t wait!!  I’ve known Joanna since she was like 9 years old.

Laura is making a 2.5 day trip to Pécs with four other friends, and she’ll leave tomorrow!  So the boys and I will be four bachelors in all.  I’m not sure if we will survive.  We probably won’t eat or change our clothes, or brush our teeth or anything.  Pray for us!  :)

A couple weeks from now, my friend Tom and I will train to Vukovar Croatia, pick up our friend Láci, and travel to Bosnia to meet with some people.  I’m looking forward to this trip and to learning about life in Bosnia.

Hokies

Sunday, January 14th, 2007

I need to let the world know that the Virginia Tech Hokies men’s basketball team have beaten both the #5 ranked Duke Blue Devils and the #1 ranked UNC Tarheels in the last two weeks.

back to Budapest

Sunday, January 7th, 2007

Only three more days!  On Tuesday we’ll jump on an airplane and fly back to Hungary and resume life as Budapestians.  We are eager to see our friends.
